Conversion to Islam
Cassies Clay converted from Christianity to Islam. That is when he changed his name to Muhammad Ali. This was around the time when the Vietnam war was flaring up. The United States Government issued a draft. Muhammad was called to the draft but he declined to serve our country. He was very vocal about his decision and claimed serving in the military was against his religion. The Government took his to court over his desire to not serve. He ended up not being convicted of anything but lost many of his boxing titles.
